Quote he returned to the team to face Castleford earlier this month and Maguire revealed that the live-wire Australian has only now fully recovered from the effects of an horrific knee injury which derailed his sparkling 2010 campaign last Easter.
Maguire said: “The week before last was the first time that Amos has felt 100 per cent with his knee.
“He’s had a tough ride there since last year when he had that awful injury, wrapping his knee around the post. But he’s showing some good signs now, in training, of what he was doing before the injury.
“He’s a very capable player, he’s working hard to get back to where he was.”
Maguire admits Roberts now needs to build up his confidence in the joint after such a lengthy lay-off and recovery period.
“Every injury is different and people react differently but it was a bad one,” he said.
“Amos is a finely-tuned athlete and it’s taken longer than we expected, but he’s back now and hopefully we’ll see some good signs of what he can do.”'"
Well that explains why he has been almost anonymous in the U20's. I was perplexed as to why Amos did not at least stand out in the U20's. He is an awesome player when fully fit and firing. This at least goes some way to explaining it. Hopefully we'll see him pick up some form/confidence now as he has fully recovered. Wouldn't it be nice to see him carve it up in the latter half of the season with Hock and Fielden back.
Also Fielden is due back in 3-4 weeks, but may return earlier than that:
Quote “Stuey is probably three to four weeks away,” the coach said. “But he’s
improving quickly so we may even get him back earlier than that.”'"
All our players seem to be coming back at exactly the right time. Selection headache for Madge who do you drop out of Lee Mossop, Paul Prescott, Jeff Lima, Andy Coley and Stuart Fielden? If Amos is ever fit and firing (ala 2010) does he come back at fullback with Sam moving to the halves? Who do you then drop Deacon or Finch?
I don't think we'll see Roberts return to that 2010 form this season. So the latter is not very likely, but Fielden's return to the side is. Who do you honestly drop? I can't pick any of them. Do you go with four forwards on the bench and let Leuluai play the full 80 at hooker? Or can you find a reason to drop one of them? Personally I would be tempted to move Leuluai to hooker for the 80 minutes and have four forwards on the bench.
