Seen a tweet on this with him saying no top 4 its not viable for him to stay with only a 200 thousand payment with the contracts they are paying , lools like top 4 is gone so that means he's probably gonna go

It makes pretty grim listening. Finding it difficult to attract a strong coach, in our current situation, and is looking to strengthen the squad. Apparently, Lilley got injured at 'Fax too!

This is precisely what is so flawed about this setup. How can you possibly arrange a squad and run to a budget when you have no idea what your levels of income will be in 12 months time? It's ridiculous.

Leigh have perhaps run on the assumption that they would finish in the top 4 and secure a certain level of funding. I don't think that is an unreasonable assumption.

Contracts will have been offered to players on the back of this assumption no doubt.

So if top 4 doesn't happen, the income won't be there and the budget falls apart.



What happens then?



Proof if you ever needed it that the powers at the top - with their nice, stable yearly income - don't give a damn about those in the leagues below.



I hope you guys are ok going forward, as a Bulls fan I know only too well how bad it can get and wouldn't wish it on any other club.

He doesn't say "its not viable for him to stay".. What he's saying, is do the numbers. So lets do the numbers for this season so far. The figures below are all pure speculation but based on some factual quotes.



Basic Outgoings: 2018



Squad: 26 players, average wage £50k = £1.3m

Club per season: £700k



£2m to run the club in 2018.



Basic Incomings: 2018



Central Funding: £800k

Parachute Payment: £500k

Attendance so far 20k: Average £13 per ticket = £260k

Sponcership/Merchandise: Anyones guess but lets keep reasonable = £400k



Around £2m on incomings so far.



Although yes, £1.3m to £200k would be a devastating loss. I still fail to see just what personal investment has been made this season. The figures show its self-sufficient at present and actually on its way to making a profit.

Grim listening, but hardly surprising. We're in a dire situation if we don't make the top 4 and nobody wants to be our coach.



To be honest, all the talk about how we can still make the top 4 is all well and good, but it may be wise to start planning for a transition to part time team. Question is, will there be any money to make this transition? Hopefully some of players on 2 year contracts can find other clubs and the TSY program can continue to get the sponsorship backing to keep reserves running.

Well said Gary Schofield at the end of that feature on Leigh. What he said regarding the players taking responsibility for their performances so far, and how it is affecting both Derek and the Leigh fans is spot on. The players have to take full responsibility for the results so far and prove that they are worthy of, not just of their reputations as NRL and SL players, but worthy to wear the Leigh shirt and realise how important this Club is to the whole town.
