last week after I had left my car in Lord street to be valeted, I thought I would pop into the Globe for a livener but when I opened the door it resembled a building site with the floor dug up and everywhere full of dust, I have since learned that it has been bought by the guy who owns the clothes shop next door and part of the agreement is that it cant re-open again as a pub, and so another one bites the dust how long before they are all gone.

oh I didn't know that some one told me it was going to be a KFC I thought it was a bit bizzare having 2 KFC's then again in Leigh there's 2 Argos stores, 2 JJB's/DW's & 2 Mac D's when are we going to get a burger king again

Don't think the Globe will be missed by many!!!



Didn't someone post on the "Steakhouse" thread that they thought it was going to be turned into an Indian restaurant?

I have heard that it will be an Indian Restaurant, although I am not sure if thats correct?

thats not always been the case- in the eighties the globe was by far the most popular pub in leigh.



it was owned by the late jimmy wilcox i think and it was packed solid all weekend

dont preach to me I wasn't drink driving I was with my good lady wife who doesn't drink and who was driving me home there's nowt wrong with the globe it was part of my courting life in the 60s

If I recall it was a bit smaller though!

They knocked the wall through into the shop next door to make it bigger. I think the shop was a butchers. Not sure though.

I remember the Globe when the bar was a window and there were car seats on beer crates in the tap room.
