It's because they didn't want to pay their debts (again) and wanted to set up as another brand new club.

In fairness to the RFL - they gave an opportunity to an expansion club. The expansion club was proven to be not viable. The RFL took a risk and it didn't pay off, but should they be criticised for giving the Crusaders a chance?
I suppose the anti expansionists like me were proved right again, I'm sure my view on the Crusaders coming in in 2009 was something along the lines of "good luck to them but I bet they go bust within 5 years".
If they want to bring in new teams they should be in areas where RL is reasonably well established like in France.

i normally agree on your post sal but the last few sententences i have to disagree i'm more for either expanding in the home nations area or give the established championship teams a crack in the big time the likes of Widnes,Halifax etc i feel letting more french sides in would be pots of money thrown at them only to fail,i understand it's the case at Cru but i feel they made the leap too soon, also expanding to france again puts more expense on the fans with the french not bringing too many fans over here

i dont think this is a pro or anti expansion issue.
the rfl failed to look into the viability of an rl club in SW and then NW and perhaps more importantly it didn't vet Samuals,Moss and roberts deeply enough.

| Personally I think that the Welsh experiment failed because the RFL chose to start it in South (RU heartland) Wales. Maybe if they are looking to expand the main rugby playing areas they do that, expand the current areas rather than try and start brand new areas.
When MM moved from Cardiff to Scotland I was expecting the RFL to hand a licence to a new unknown outfit from Edinburgh. Then again, maybe that move wasn't as successful as they want to make you think

I'm assuming the normally well informed Sal has his fishing rod out on this one, but the France thing has, to a greater extent, failed.
Hence my original thread of about a month ago, when it was announced that Tolouse had gone back to their own league, with their 'tails between their legs', in an embarrased stylee.
Expansion is not working (atm). Let's leave it (at least 10 years) and maybe revisit, WHEN THE TIME IS RIGHT.
After all, we've still got Quins (and similarly Wakey) playing to 'one man and his dog' crowds every fortnight.
Hudds have just played a semi, where hardly any of their own turned up, and Bradford are only playing to inflated crowds, simply because of a bargain season ticket scheme, which even the tightest of Yorkshiremen would find iot difficult to turn down.

Not paying their debts means ordinary people who've done an honest days work for them wont be getting paid somewhere down the line, meaning refusing them entry into the championship is fully just justified in my opinion. Its a shame for the fans who seem a decent bunch though and what the long term ramifications for professional rugby league in wales are remain to be seen
