he's fair game!'"
TOTALLY agree.
They use the Castleford example and say that it has set a precedent to silence abusive fans!?
Not a chance is abusing somebody for their choice of sexuality (totally wrong) comparable with abusing somebody for drunkenly simulating oral sex with a dog (fair game!).
Besides which.... Castleford weren't fined for the chants per se, they were fined for not doing enough to try and prevent the chants. BIG DIFFERENCE! It's impossible to stop the fans chanting abusive stuff, that's not what the RFL had a problem with, apparently Cas fans emailed the RFL with a list of specific instances when they'd heard other teams (mainly us!) chanting homophobic and abuse chants. The RFL's response wasn't that the chants had taken place (otherwise we could all dress as other fans, chant loads of rubbish and get the club fined), the point was that Castleford Tigers (THE CLUB) hadn't done enough to try and prevent the chants.
In short; stick up a sign saying "We do not tolerate abusive chanting", make an announcement to the same effect every match day, and be harsh on anyone caught red handed. Other than that, the club can't really do much more.
