Similarly it's daft how someone in 2nd can win the ''sl title?''

| Quote Airliebird94="Airliebird94"First of all the exiles game will never have any passion in it. It's just too friendly! Origin wasn't an instant success in Australia, and I don't think playing a load of players who either aren't good enough for the NRL or getting toward the end of their career is an entertaining fixture. The Aussies have stuck with playing two regions against each other and has over the years become more and more passionate among fans and players. (the exiles don't even have a fan base!!) Yorkshire vs Lancashire has been a rivalry dating back hundreds of years!'"
You can't lambast a new concept for not taking off straight away, then suggest we create a new one and give it time if it doesn't take off straight away. It's hypocritical. Origin in Aus was a pretty much instant success BTW. It wasn't as big as it is now, but it was still a huge game.
As BP1 excellently puts, it's more than just two areas competing. There's underlying values that we can't artificially replicate. Our game has been quite insular, sticking to its northern values. Until there is some significant expansion, we will NEVER be able to replicate Origin. Lancs/Yorks will not catch the imagination of the nation anymore than an Exiles game will.
Quote Airliebird94="Airliebird94"I aren't saying they've stopped trying to train more referees, but I don't see why we've been stuck with some of the same old rubbish for so long. It can't take that long to train a ref.'"
How long do you think it should take? And what is that opinion based on?

If we have two referees, they wouldn't need to be as high quality. They're essentially doing the job of one person. One 4-star ref and one 3-star would be just as good as (if not better than) a 5-star ref alone surely?

How many of our current officials would you rate as even 3 star quality?

Two Referees - The way the game is played and ref'd in oz is a far better system and allows more flowing rugby - [uAgree[/u
The return of "The War of the Roses" origin or something along those lines to replace the crappy exiles game - if we stuck with that and developed it more we think it could eventually become similar to the State of Origin in levels of intensity and passion, creating an entertaining and eagerly anticipated part of the RL calendar.
Anymore ideas (or criticisms of our thoughts) are more than welcome............
'"
The England v Exiles has come about as an opportunity for England to develop more as a team in a competitive environment to better prepare us for World Cup's, 4 Nations, etc. You can't do that with Yorks v Lancs and what about players from outside these two counties who don't qualify? For me we stick with the Exiles but only one weekend game for the foreseeable future and never at the Galpharm.
Also need Video Ref at every game, it's a joke that this does not already happen, and I don't buy the cost issue, you don't need a big screen (unless you have a hook up anyway i.e KC Stadium), and don't have to have as many camera angles, just enough to have a better chance of getting some of the poor decisions correct.

| Many of the Lancashire lot say they don't care about the Roses rivalry, which is a shame, but what can you do? It takes two.
Promotion and relegation would be desirable. But it only works if the gap between SL and the Championship is bridgeable. To narrow the gap you'd have to put money into the second tier, and that'd have to come from the Sky cash which the SL teams rely so heavily on. SL2? Unlikely, I suspect.
If we did have P&R, you could cut the play-off places, without it there would be too many dead rubbers. I do think the play-off system is bloated and would simplify it.
I'd personally like to see the League winners as Champions, and a Premiership end of season trophy, but it probably/certainly wouldn't be the event the GF is.

You can not buy the cost issue all you like, it doesn't make it not an issue. It's been estimated to cost around £250,000 to get this at every game. The amount you'll be paying for cameras, cameramen, technicians, etc. cannot be ignored. It all adds up to around £1.5-2k a game.

If marketed correctly and if it got full backing off players and coaches it doesn't if it's yorks v lancs, blondes v brunnettes or veggies v carnivores. You'll get to see 34 of the best players go hard at it.

Marketing can 'enhance profiles', 'reach target demographics' - all that . But to succeed you need something genuine and spontaneous at the heart of it or it won't last.
I'd stick with the Exiles fixture, though one game a year looks to be enough.

| Regards to the Exiles game it's a great one off game but if we want a series like SOO Yorks vs Lans would be better idea.
I dont know what ppl may think about this but i've always thought about a 5 nations comp try and help develop this games in the other home nations and get more ppl watching, supporting and playing the rugby.

| Scrap the England farce and bring back Great britain when playing for a shirt meant something!!!!
bring back proper tours where the Oz and NZ teams play the top 8 sides as well as three test sides and then see if they can win a series now!!!
have a mid season break and at that point play the WCC when our top teams are up to speed not cold as xmas leftovers after one match .
sod the roses games they were dour at best but bring in maybe a series of three matches throughout the season where last year top three sides in SL play the top three sides in the NRL in a sort of mini cup , now that would attract viewing......
exiles is a decent concept but as usual the rfl dont know their ass from their elbow about planning or execution of them hence they are badly followed
