as a sky customer for over 20 years i rang up to enquire about getting sky+ they then told me i had to get sky+hd (i dont care for HD) and they were gonna charge me 60 quid for a box and 30 quid intallation. Yet as a new customer its only 30 quid for a box. They were unwilling to give any discount at all. Sod em. im sticking with my beta max

Fraid so, apparently there are ways to copy from disk to disk (not sure how) but if its due to data loss on the disk there is little point in doing that,

If only Sky had "activated " the USB port on their Sky + boxes so we could transfer anything we had recorded without the hassle of connecting up another machine .

The HD offer applies to new customers or current Sky customers with a premium package - Movies or Sport. I got the offer as I have Sky Sports World (i.e. all four Sky Sports Channels).

i have all sports package too. they told me they dont just do sky+ and id have to get hd too

My Mam and Dad had Sky put in today and they got a Sky HD box for £49 and free installation. They haven't got the HD package, but said the offer is open to new and existing customers too. They may be wrong but I can't see how they can charge for installation if you've already got Sky +.

Considering getting one because you can still get the free to air HD channels with the box and my Sky + gets on my tats at time.

The sods never let me put their names forward for the free M&S vouchers tho.

Sky HD is excellent, especially for sport, although if I'm honest the move from Sky to Sky+ (which I did a couple of years back) was more of a revolution.



I could cope without HD but not without Sky+. It completely changed my TV vieiwing.

I stuck a 250gb hard drive in my SKY+ box about 3 years ago and it's been trouble free since. Problem is they use IDE Hard drives which are no longer made. There is a piece of software which makes it easy to transfer recorded programs to a new drive.



Been getting letters off SKY re HD so may have a look at it it you don't have to pay to upgrade

If you fancy upgrading, any of these drives will fit but are NOT GUARANTEED TO WORK. Plenty of info if you google it

How much does it cost a month for HD with movies and sports ??

YES! luckily i was at the game but 30minutes into the recording on friday it was 'interrrupted' we lost the rest of the game...gutted!!



This isnt the first time its happened and probably not the last... my girlfriends being so fed up she has rang sky and had the box replaced twice in about a year.



Seems like the HD package or an hard drive link up is the only way to ensure a full recording!



I can see it being a long time before they scrap the 10 a month extra for the HD package plus installation and charging you for the box itself...is it worth it?
