Can anyone recommend a good product which doesn't need a CD to be installed and can just be downloaded straight off the net and work instantly? Reason being I'm away at the minute with a small 10" netbook (so wouldn't be able to load the CD anyway without buying an external one). Not too fussed about the price but it must have some protection against buying online as well as the standard stuff. Thanks.

You can download both Mcafee or Norton. I used to use Norton and now use Mcafee.

Would also advise to install Spybot from www.safer-networking.org which will keep you secure from spyware which is just as much a pain as viruses nowadays.

If you are looking to pay then stay away from norton it is awful and slows your system right down. NOD32 is a good paid for one as is Kaspersky like Isiah says.

AVG Free is good i've used it for years with no problems just make sure you get the free version and not the trial. also make sure you have your firewall switched on and are taking windows updates

Agree about AVG. Have never had a virus get past it and its free....top stuff.

Thanks for all the advice, some really good advice and sites there to decide upon. I'm now tempted to go for a free one but this won't protect me against online purchases will it??

if you have a firewall and AV online purchasing is fine just stick to the reputable sites like amazon, play ect check the little padlock is visable on the bottom right of your browser. also a good practice is to use a credit card for online purchases just in case as most are covered and its the banks money they have not yours

Avast and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for me. Both downloadable for free too.

I have used Norton and Macfree in the past and then I tried Avast, I would not except paying to put Nortons on. I use Avast pro currently and its on all our PCs and lap tops, I have full confidence in it. I think it cost around £120 for three years for four copies a couple of years ago and it updates daily.
