Smart move for Wane. I said when the rumour was Les Cats jumping before he was pushed was the best way to preserve his coaching career. Get fired from Wigan and I think he'd have stood a good chance of going the same way as G West, out of the game. I don't think top flight RL club would be interested in him as they have seen how he has had Wigan playing over recent years and results like getting kicked out of the cup by HKR at Leigh, some big losses and for a club with Wigan's resources only three wins in major trophies since 2011 is not a great CV. He's done well for himself to get a job in coaching in RU because I think the only way for him in RL was downwards.

So he works on defensive technique (yep), Prop-Forward skills (yep), mindset (he'll certainly get them pumped up) and getting in to the heads of the academy players (look at the players we have/had who came through the academy under SW).
Sad to see him go, although I expected it at the end of last season (and yes, I know that we won the WCC, but be honest - We were shït for most of the rest of the season). |

The prop forward skills he's supposedly working on are handling and agility accord to the press release. He knows about as much as I do about what the job of union prop is so I still think it is ironic he's been employed to coach handling and agility which is something we lack. Defense, OK but I am not convinced on the other bits either as he doesn't strike me as a great motivator once the shouting has stopped. |
