2 points off 6th, 16 games to go, having not played either of of whipping boys of the league yet. And in a cup final. Turning up for each other with excellent efforts like Thewlis against Leigh, coming back 16 days after a cheekbone op and putting performances together with actual youth products in the team.
Its a bit premature to be sacking the coach because he’s signing up to an NRL club in the future.
What is the importance of 6th place? Only 1st and 2nd win the GF under this system and we are miles off those places and teams. Are you harbouring thoughts that we will win the GF from 6th this season? Or do you think Sam could win us the title in 2026?
If Sam left gracefully, and mutually agreed, at the end of the season it would mean we could get a coach in who could commit to the longer term a year earlier.
Sack him then. 1 and 2 are unattainable, so if it’s that or nothing, then you want him sacked.
This team have shown that they can win, they can do the hard stuff and the gritty stuff to win. Even with backs against the wall.
There are 16 rounds to go, 10 of them are against the current bottom 6. We have HKR twice, Wigan, Leigh twice and Leeds. Both Leigh and Leeds have proved beatable. We could genuinely arrive at the playoffs in any spot 3 - 6 and have a crack at it.
It’s all just a bit of hyperbole because Sam has done what he said he would. He said all along he was going back, we knew that. If the club haven’t started on a 2027 head coach replacement already then that’s the clubs fault. But if we can find the right coach for 2027 now, get them working on the recruitment and retention early and lock in key players. It’s just good forward planning.
It’s maddening that a team so disrupted by injuries to key players can make a final for one of the only two available trophies, and still be in the running for another really, and people are actively agitating the coach. We could win a flipping cup in 2 weeks, get your top ironed, chill a beer or two for beforehand and go and get behind them tomorrow night.
