I think the naming rights were used as a bargaining tool to get Sale to sign the tenancy agreement they were obviously dragging their heels with. Why else would the stadium management company agree to sell the naming rights for a price lower than market value, allowing the Sharks to take some profit from something they could have taken more profit from themselves?

It was ludicrous,on the face of it, that the Stadium company sold the rights to Sale who could then profit from the onward selling to Bell.

But, we need to think back to the circumstances at the time,not now with the benefit of hindsight.

They'd built a stadium and had a tenant that not only failed to pay its rent,apparently,but also looked as if they would go bust owing even more money to Peel and the Council,the stadium owners.

It's hardly surprising they laid on a sweetener to Sale .

What price were the rights sold for and how do you know that was lower than "market value"?



ATEOTD the value of anything is what you can get for it, clearly the joint venture company made a judgement call at a particular moment and sold the rights to Sale. Sale have now presumably received an amount of cash from AJ Bell in return for them being able to name the stadium for a number of years - we don't know what else is tied up in that deal so I think it's very difficult to attribute a "market value"

If the price wasn't lower than what Sale believed the 'market value' to be they wouldn't have invested in the naming rights. I guarantee you one thing Sale won't have sold them for less than what they paid the SMC for them.

Fact of the matter is a few of you are getting your knickers in a twist over something which at the time was completely out of the clubs control.



If as stated on numerous occasions the Dr is the wealthy man he is a few bob earned on the naming rights of that stadium will hardly cause a ripple.



A few of you should concentrate more on what the product may or may not be like on the field next season.

Without knowing the commercial ins & outs of the contracts there is no way you can guarantee any such thing:



How long is Sale's lease?

If their lease outlasts the AJ Bell deal can they sell the rights again?

Have AJ Bell got the naming rights as part of a wider sponsorship deal with Sale?



Of course Sale must believe it's a good deal for them otherwise they wouldn't do it, but what's wrong with that? We all have to exist in world of commercial reality (apart from the bankers

I still can't see how you think Sale somehow got the rights below "market value".

As I've said previously this thread is all so much teeth gnashing & bravado after the event , considering , the deed . ( stadium rights ) were sold nearly a year ago even more so , a year ago we had other more pressing matter on our minds .



Having a retail outlet at the Stadium and possibly another location is far more important than fretting after the event .



As for the Stadium sponsors , I don't have an issue with their Initials , I will refer to it hence forth as the 'the Augustus John Stadium .. I just won't need to use their surname .



They also have naming rights At Old Trafford Cricket & the PSA Mens World Squash Championships. since like it or not they have the brand on the stadium until 2022, it would be a priority for Salford to approach them since it seems they are keen to link their firm with Mcr Area stadiums & sports , not just Rugger.
