| This spine can't close a game out, same problem that started our decline last year.
Swap Sinfield or McGuire in for Myler or Tui and we win the game more often than not.

| To be fair to the props, I thought Cuthbertson had a great game, and Mik and Singleton made an impact off the bench. We just need a Peacock, or a Walmsley in the front row with them.

| Let me get yhe moan at the referee out first, I don’t mind a rec getting calls wrong it does happen and they even out over a season, however it sticks in the throat a bit when he actually gets the call right then immediately changes his mind - I think we could well have scored near the end had he stuck to his original correct call.
I need to watch it back but I really feared for us after the opening 15 minutes but what was really pleasing was we stuck in there and for a 20 minute spell showed glimpses of what I think we can become, I though Lollohea in attack was very good and I continue to be impressed with Merrin, Hurrell is just plain good fun to watch and I thought Dwyer went well playing the full 80 but I do think Having Parcell and him do spells makes us a better team. Ferress finally is starting to look like the player we signed and I thought Briscoe had a really solid game.
I am happy in parts but I do think our goal line defence was far too soft today but despite that we could/shoukd have sneaked that, which I didn’t think id be saying that 4 games in.

I am Mags biggest fan but with him we wouldn't have won tonight, and i'm glad we didn't. Yes the ref was shocking, bit we that didn't make us miss tackles. Too many soft tries conceded again.
On the flip side, for 30 minutes we were sensational and Konnie is a superstar. All this doom and bloom is nonsense, we will beat them in October in Manchester, that is what matters, They didn't trouble us bar a few dodgy lapses in D which will get better with time.
Be positive, be proud, be disappointed we did not win. We would have taken that at 1930 tonight.

Yep, though I’d say more reminiscent of Bailey being penalised for tackling too hard. Ironically vs Saints IIRC.

| Just to add, can’t believe some are saying Merrin is a waste of Marquee spot, he’s absolute quality but needs to be at LF or SR

| It was a good game and we probably got away with one given that spell were Hurrell in particular was outstanding in the first half. Once we sorted that right side out though you seemed to lack a plan B and struggled. I think you’ll finish in the top 5 though especially if Hurrell carries on like that. Not sure I’m getting all the criticism of the officials though. Apart from the knock on call at the end I’m not sure what he got wrong for Leeds (definitely wasn’t a double movement)? And you did score off the back of a penalty for a ball steal on Hurrell when it was a clear knock on.

Giving a tap on the twenty because Tui let go of the ball when he thought he’d scored a try? I don’t think ive ever seen that before?
I also think your definitely wasn’t a double movement is questionable

| Early signs are that Walker has a hamstring strain, and Ward has medial ligament damage, so hopefully not as bad as first feared.

It’s a double movement any day of the week in the history of the game. Either they have secretly changed the rules, or the officials are incompetent.

| Quote Les Norton="Les Norton"I’m not sure, Dwyer played out of his skin. Roby has the luxury of a better set of props.

Our props tried hard enough but those three tries from their England props won Saints the game. We were losing the ruck again in that second half. When Thompson and Walmsley get a roll on it does help Roby - but that is a cracking front row.

| It is a fantastic front row, which would grace most sides in NRL let alone SL, but as others have said our goal line D was poor - as much as I like Walmsley he shouldn't get in for one let alone both scores.

We were offside from one restart last night actually. End of the day you just want consistency from the referees, these outliers are frustrating. Play the balls generally are rubbish this year, players lazily throwing the ball under their feet, not being refereed this year...

| A very good display overall and we are moving in the right direction. Attack is starting to gel and we look a threat with the ball. Our trouble was getting field position in the Saints half. A mixture of lack of go forward at times and a poor long kicking game. When Saints had their starting front row on we couldn't handle them. Oh for a Walmsley, a luke Thompson or a Garbutt........
Thought Lolohea looked better ball in hand but his defence was a joke at times. It needs sorting asap.

Agree with this. Sutcliffe suspect in defence too on the same side, Tui needs good defenders either side. Saints really targeted that channel, as will other teams.
Also think it’s worth commenting on the Rhinos away support, they were fantastic.

| The issue for me is that ref has to make a decision when sending up a decision to the video ref even tho he doesn't know.
If the double movement had been sent as a no try and Lolohea had been sent as a try then both decisions, I'm convinced, would have been given that way and that isn't right.
For a ref to send a decision to the video ref it's because he isn't certain so why does he have to make a guess before sending it upstairs? It's wrong and not fair on the ref especially when his guess is clearly having an impact on the decision given.
If that 1st try wasn't a double movement then what the hell is? I don't blame Hicks, at full speed with bodies around him and probably a bad angle but how the video ref can look at that a few times and still give a try is beyond me.
It would be interesting to know how the stats look on referees giving try for the home team and no try to the visitors before sending upstairs when making his guess.
I thought we was fantastic last night as I've said before, I left the ground pleased with what I had watched. I don't think we got what we deserved at all but on that showing I'm confident we are heading in the right direction under Furner. Really impressed with the depth and shape of our attack last night. We look a coached team and i haven't thought that for many a day.

| Not sure what anyone sees in ferres, thought he was terrible again last night, dont think any player contributed more to there comeback at the start of the 2nd half...stupid penalty on 4th tackle, kick into touch and while he certainly wasnt the only one, 2 absolutly pathetic tackle attempts for the walmsley and thompson trys ..awful.
Stats for both our second rows make abysmal reading, no tackle busts between them, less than 4 meters per carry each, not sure how you even manage that low a meters per carry but they did and some poor defence.
Thought when given a fair chance our attacking structures look to be coming on great, as a big critic of mcdermott and his lack of structure, this is sumthing im pleased to see.
Dwyer was very good, thought his distribution was first class, we know about his running game, which was good again.
Tui, starting to look very good with the ball, but his defence is shocking, aswel as working massivly on it, its maby time to shift him and myler on D, teams go to there left way more clinicly than going to there right, might mask his defficiencys a bit more.
Hurrell, very good, just wish he'd concentrate a bit more with loose balls, twice simple pick ups were knocked on and led to trys..although one was a clear double movement, which takes me on to hicks
Complete shambles of a reff performance, thought the one at wigan was one of the worst id seen, this was another level, as much as our second half defence didnt deserve to be rewarded with a win, we would of got one, if hicks had done his job even close to decent, he's either useless or biased, after that pathetic call on loloheas 'knock on' for releasing the ball after the no try, which happens all the time and is never, ever punished... im not sure which.

| Rhinos played very well, but a shocker from the officials. This was a match we should have one,but a couple of soft tries put an end to that. Will we get the 50/50 decisions when back at Headingley??

| Still work to do on the squad, but we knew that already. Very promising with the ball when we have good field position, but struggling to make metres in our own half.
I’d like to see more bite (no pun intended) in our defence, we seem a little passive there, and some of the 1-2-1 misses are really costing us.
We’re making progress.
